For years I have been pestered by people who know about the “Three Baritone Band” to start one in Calgary and I’ve always been too busy. Keith O’Rourke has taken point on this and now He, myself and Pat Belliveau have teamed up with Kodi Hutchinson and Tyler Hornby to put it together. The fun part is our first CD has been top of the Canadian Jazz Charts for the last 4 months!

It's my pleasure to be hosting the Kawa Jazz Jam. If you haven't been Kawa Espresso Bar is a wonderful little cafe on 8th street. They have excellent food and drinks and have been hosting a Saturday afternoon Jam for a while now (long enough that I'm not sure when it started!). The B3-4tet is baritone saxophonist Gareth Bane’s first feature project since returning to Calgary from New York City. It is a groove engine for the resonant baritone combined with the power of the B3 organ to create a sonority till now unknown to the Calgary scene.

The group features Gareth Bane on baritone saxophone with Steve Fletcher on the B3 organ, accented by Ralf Buschmeyer on guitar and unified by Jon May on drums. The project focuses on jazzed up rhythm and blues with a mix of traditional and original music.

This will be an outdoor performance with seven legendary musicians who have all received the Order of Canada. Featuring Jens Lindemann, Tommy Banks, Guido Basso, Dave Young, Terry Clark, and Phil Dwyer. I'll be holding down the baritone sax chair and am honoured to have been asked to play with these incredible musicians! The show is at the Shaw Amphitheatre at the Banff Centre for the arts. The new National Music Centre opens on Canada Day and Prime Time has been chosen to be part of the line up to break in the new Studio Bell Concert Hall! This show we're featuring special guest Campbell Ryga on saxophone!

Campbell was born in Edmonton, raised in Summerland BC and lived and worked in Toronto, NYC and Vancouver. He was voted Alto Sax of The Year in 2000 for Canada, has 3 Juno Awards, 2 other nominations and played on  Michael Buble's recording " Crazy Love " that received a Grammy in 2010. CAMPBELL has toured internationally on 26 separate occasions to Western Europe and Latin America. He is a founding member of The Hugh Fraser Quintet and has toured across Canada on 24 separate occasions. He has performed on over 72 Jazz Recordings and has recorded with the best in the business including Renee Rosnes, Neil Swainson, P.J. Perry, Ross Taggart and Terry Clarke. He is a Yamaha Artist, clinician and composer.
