My B3-4tet is going to be back at Lolita's performing the music of George Benson and Ronnie Cuber. Back in the late 1960s the George Benson quartet was a Soul Jazz group featuring George Benson on Guitar, Ronnie Cuber on Baritone Saxophone, Lonnie Smith on Organ and Jimmy Lovelace or Marion Booker on Drums. Their music was really in the vein of what we do with the B3-4tet today and I thought it would be fun to bring some of their music to you!
The B3-4tet is my first feature project since returning to Calgary from New York City. It is a groove engine for the resonant baritone combined with the power of the B3 organ to create a sonority till now unknown to the Calgary scene.
The group features Gareth Bane on baritone saxophone with Steve Fletcher on the B3 organ, accented by Ralf Buschmeyer on guitar and unified by Jon May on drums. The project focuses on jazzed up rhythm and blues with a mix of traditional and original music.
